DECONTAMINATE AND MITIGATE

CHEMICAL WARFARE AGENTS
TOXIC INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS

MORE INFO

ARTEMIS DECON FOAM 200

Artemis Decon Foam 200 (DF-200) is a three-part decontaminant solution used in the neutralization of chemical materials. When mixed per the mixing instructions at a 49:49:2 ratio, Decon Foam-200 becomes an effective solution with a combination of color-safe oxidizing agents, surfactants, detergents, emulsifiers, and foam stabilizers. Decon Foam 200 is produced commercially using the formula licensed by Sandia National Laboratories.

Mixing Instructions: Pour the entire contents of Artemis Decon Foam 200 (DF-200) Part A, Part B and Part C which acts as a booster into a mixing container (plastic or glass), large enough to hold all components when completely mixed. Stir the solution until it is well mixed (15-20 seconds). The mixture is now ready to be applied by sponge, soak, mop, mechanical sprayer, foaming apparatus or ULV Sprayer. If foaming apparatus or ULV sprayer, follow the equipment manufacturer’s directions for use.

Artemis Decon Foam 200 (DF-200) Part A, Part B, and Part C (booster) are always sold in corresponding container sizes such that the use of the entire contents of each container will always result in the required product ratio of 49:49:2.

Use of Artemis DF-200 for Destruction of Pre-Cursor
Chemicals for Cocaine Production

Artemis DF-200 is a water-based decontaminant licensed from Sandia National Laboratories and designed to neutralize toxic chemical and biological agents. It effectively treats industrial chemicals (e.g., cyanides, phosgene, ammonia), kills bacteria (including spores), viruses, and fungi, and is non-toxic and non-corrosive.

DF-200 has been widely used in real-world scenarios, including by US CENTCOM in Iraq and Afghanistan post-9/11. It has also supported biological cleanups, PPE decontamination by National Guard CSTs, fentanyl neutralization, meth remediation, and more.

The Artemis DF-200 formulation

1) is effective for neutralizing highly toxic chemicals including many toxic industrial chemicals (e.g., hydrogen cyanide, sodium cyanide, phosgene, anhydrous ammonia, carbon disulfide, and many more),
2) is effective for killing pathogenic organisms including vegetative and spore-forming bacteria, viruses, and fungi,
3) utilizes very mild ingredients that gives it very low toxicity and corrosivity properties, and
4) can be deployed as a foam, liquid spray, or fog on a wide variety of materials and surfaces.

Artemis DF-200 is an aqueous-based decontaminant that can rapidly neutralize highly toxic chemical and biological materials. The formulation is licensed by Artemis BIOSOLUTIONS, LLC from Sandia National Laboratories where it was originally developed to decontaminate chemical and biological warfare agents for military and homeland security applications. Artemis DF-200 is identical to Sandia DF-200 and contains surfactants (i.e., detergents), mild solvents, inorganic salts, a low concentration of hydrogen peroxide (~3.5%), a hydrogen peroxide activator, and water. Artemis DF-200 is a highly buffered alkaline solution at a pH of approximately 9.5. Although the chemistry of Artemis DF-200 is complex, it can be considered to be a combination of the following ingredients:

Quick Reference Guide

Footnotes:

a. Typical loading rate of the toxic material when deployed through a dispersal device (e.g., sprayer). The loading rate may be significantly higher near the device where “pooling” may occur or where bulk toxic material is present.  The loading rate may be significantly less at distances far from the deployment location.

b. Recommended application rate for DF-200 for the toxic material loading rate shown in Column 2.  Application rate may need to be
increased where “pooling” occurs or where bulk toxic material is present.

c. Recommended contact time for toxic material surface loading rate shown in Column 2 and DF-200 application rate shown in Column 3 when applied in the temperature range of 50-120°F.  Contact time should be doubled when DF-200 is deployed at temperatures less than 50°F.

d. Primary mechanism for neutralization of toxic material.  In some cases, multiple neutralization mechanisms may occur.

e. For decontamination and containment of gases, sufficient Artemis DF-200 should be used to cover the surface.

f. It is expected that all microorganisms in this class will require similar decontamination protocols.  Note that Artemis DF-200 is not a registered disinfectant or sporicide with the US Environmental Protection Agency.  Decontamination criteria are based on US Department of Defense testing against these classes of microorganisms.

DF 200

Cocaine production involves numerous precursor chemicals, including oxidants, solvents, reducing agents, drying agents, adulterants, and cutting agents—many of which are also used in making other illicit drugs. These substances are commonly monitored by governments.

Common chemicals used in cocaine production include:
Acids: HCl, nitric, sulfuric
Adulterants: caffeine, lidocaine, benzocaine, levamisole, and others
Drying agents: calcium chloride, sodium sulfate
Oxidants: potassium permanganate, manganese oxide, sodium hypochlorite
Reducing agents: sodium/potassium metabisulfite, bisulfite
Solvents: acetone, ethanol, MEK, methanol, toluene, xylene, etc.
Other agents: activated charcoal, ammonia, lime, bicarbonates, urea, benzene
