Dr. Truscott has worked extensively in characterizing the allergenic proteins initiating reactions to natural rubber latex products, determining their prevalence at difference stages of NRL harvesting, processing and product manufacturing as well as how to reduce levels in the final product. Additional areas of career emphasis include the adverse consequences of particle contamination of the surgical wound, unplanned hypothermia during surgery and the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Wava has approached HAI reduction as an overall effort including Environmental Services, Sterile processing, Infection Prevention, Nursing staff, physicians, patients and visitors. Her current responsibilities are primarily Clinical Education with additional activities in Product Innovation, Corrective Actions and standard test development (e.g., ASTM).
